Aside from the roster being largely constructed through the college football transfer portal, there is another aspect of Deion Sanders' Colorado Buffaloes program that stands out.
That is the fact that Sanders made it a point to load his staff with coaches who have extensive NFL experience.
Defensive coordinator Robert Livingston worked in the NFL for over a decade in multiple roles, offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur had three different head coaching stints in the NFL, running backs coach Marshall Faulk is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame and so is defensive pass rush coordinator Warren Sapp.
The list goes on and on, and Sanders also makes it a point to have legends like Terrell Owens or, most recently, Randy Moss swing by the program. While the Buffaloes' coaching staff is seemingly at capacity, when CBS Colorado's Romi Bean asked if there are any former players he wants to add, Sanders definitely wasn't opposed to it.
"Plenty," Sanders said. "There's plenty. ... But I'm not gonna say it because I maybe already had him. ... But we have a wonderful staff."
Sanders' Colorado squad is off to a 1-1 start and is opening Big 12 play on Friday against the 2-0 Houston Cougars.
This will mark just the second time the two programs have played, with Colorado winning the lone meeting in 1971 by a score of 29-17.
With Colorado's quarterback situation unsettled — they played three in the win over Delaware — former third-stringer Ryan Staub will get the start. ESPN BET has the Cougars favored by 4.5.
The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET Friday and will air on ESPN.
