Deion Sanders Issues Powerful Recruiting Message After Revealing Cancer Battle

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders is officially back—and making it known to recruits across the country.

Entering his third season with the Buffaloes, Sanders took the podium Monday with his medical team to reveal a major personal health update.

For the first time publicly, Sanders shared that he had been battling bladder cancer over the past year. The cancer, caught early, was successfully treated, and Sanders is now officially cancer-free—a tremendous relief for his family, his team, and the Boulder community that has rallied behind him.

Just one day after the announcement, Sanders was back on the field Tuesday and wasted no time sending a bold, emotional message to recruits:

“Recruits, recruits, recruits, yeah it’s me. I ain’t going nowhere. Still here, you know why? I’m waiting on you," Sanders said. "I’m waiting on Mom, I’m waiting on pops, I’m waiting on uncle, I’m waiting on granddad, I’m waiting on whoever is handling things—I’m waiting on you.

Stop believing them lies… they gonna talk because that’s all they know how to do. But guess what? God got me, baby! And I want you.”

This will mark Deion Sanders’ first season as a head coach without his sons, Shedeur and Shilo, on the roster—and without two-way phenom Travis Hunter, who spent the last three years under Sanders' guidance at Jackson State and Colorado.

After missing a significant portion of spring and summer workouts due to health issues, Sanders will have some catching up to do with his 2025 roster. His biggest decision before the Buffaloes’ season opener on Aug. 29 against Georgia Tech will be selecting a starting quarterback: Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter or five-star freshman Julian Lewis.
