As the Colorado Buffaloes enter the start of summer camp in Boulder, Deion Sanders is 900 miles away in Canton, Texas dealing with another health setback.
Coach Prime recently went on the record about his condition, saying that he has lost 14 pounds and what he's dealing with is on "another level." This comes after the 57-year-old coach has dealt with multiple blood clots in his legs over the past few years.
Many have started to wonder about Sanders' timetable on a return to Colorado. His son, Deion Sanders Jr., remains with Prime at his estate an hour outside of Dallas and says he's “feeling well.” But also said on a recent livestream there are no set plans on when his father will get back to coaching.
“He’ll tell y’all soon enough what he going through, what he went through,” Deion Jr. said on the livestream on June 8. “When we get back in Boulder, I don’t know. I’m waiting until my dad leaves. When he leaves, then I’ll go. Until then, I’m gonna sit here with him."
Sanders hasn't done much media over the past two month and has stayed out of the public eye. He canceled a speaking engagement scheduled for this past weekend in his home state of Florida. This was due to an "unavoidable last-minute scheduling change," according to The Foundation for Sickle Cell Research, who had advertised Sanders as its keynote speaker. He was replaced by Magic Johnson.

On Tuesday, Sanders had a message to his followers on X (Formerly Twitter). "Let's attack today with all we have," Sanders wrote. "Let's give today everything we got. Let's not save ourselves for tomorrow knowing tomorrow ain't promised. Let's go all out baby. I believe in you & you Believe in what God has bestowed upon u. Let's go!"
Despite the concerns, Sanders recently signed a five-year, $54 million extension with Colorado. He became the highest-paid coach in the Big 12 conference. The Buffaloes open the 2025 season against Georgia Tech on Friday, August 29 (8 p.m. ET, ESPN).
