Ball State will be looking for a new head football coach after the 2024 season ends.

According to ESPN's Pete Thamel, the school has fired head coach Mike Neu after the program suffered its seventh loss this week. Ball State is 3-7 this year.

This was Neu's ninth season on the job and only compiled a 40-63 record.

Neu took over the program in 2016 but didn't have success right away. He finished below .500 in his first four seasons before leading Ball State to a 7-1 record and a win in the Arizona Bowl in 2020.

Neu won the MAC title that year before leading Ball State to another bowl game in 2021 before losing to Georgia State in the Camellia Bowl. He then finished below .500 in his last two seasons before winning only three games this year.

His final game resulted in a 51-48 loss to Buffalo on Tuesday. Ball State was up 28-24 at halftime and 35-31 entering the fourth quarter but couldn't do enough to win.

The Cardinals will finish the season with a pair of games against the Falcons of Bowling Green and the Bobcats of Ohio.

Offensive line coach Colin Johnson will be the interim coach for the final two games before the program fully searches for Neu's replacement.

We'll see who the Cardinals hire when the offseason gets underway in a few short weeks.
