ESPN Names Carson Beck College Football's Top Quarterback
© John Reed-USA TODAY Sports

Few quarterbacks had a better 2023 season than Georgia's Carson Beck. In his first season as a starter, Beck threw for 3,941 yards, the third most of any quarterback last season. His 72.4 completion percentage was a Georgia single-season record and he was one of 10 quarterbacks last season to average a first down per passing attempt.

With Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels heading to the NFL, there aren't many quarterbacks with the resume and talent of Beck. For those reasons, ESPN has named Beck as the top quarterback in college football heading into the 2024 season.

With such a difficult schedule, Georgia is happy to have their signal caller back. Georgia will play regular reason road games at Texas, Alabama, Kentucky, and Ole Miss and have neutral site matchups against Clemson and Florida.

Beck will be breaking in a new cast of weapons as Brock Bowers, Ladd McConkey, and Kendall Milton are all headed to the NFL. He'll need to be a steady hand for Georgia against a tough early slate.

"This season, going into it, knowing that I'm going to be the guy, it's like, how do I work even harder than I ever had before?" said Beck in a recent interview. "And like, how do I still maintain that hunger even coming off of a season where I thought that I did well, you know, it's pretty much just like trying to eliminate any type of complacency and then also finding, you know, that leadership role and building these connections with all these new guys that we have, because I mean, it's a new team with new faces."
