ESPN recently released its new bowl projections four weeks into the season. The media outlet has the Longhorns projected as the number one overall seed versus an intriguing opponent.
ESPN projects that Texas will take on #8 Ole Miss in the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoffs. This would be an interesting matchup as Steve Sarkisian and Lane Kiffin are two of the best offensive coaches in college football. Both have worked closely with each other at USC and Alabama and have known each other for many years.
Right now the Rebels offense averages 55 points per game and the Longhorns offense has averaged 47.5. Veteran quarterbacks lead both offenses in Jaxson Dart and Quinn Ewers. Fans might not have to wait until the playoffs to see this matchup as both teams are favorites to make the SEC Championship.
If Texas were to prove this projection right it would be the second year in a row that the Longhorns have made the playoffs as last year they lost to Washington in the CFP Semi-finals. This will be the first season with the 12-team format as the playoffs will start on Friday, Dec. 20, and end on Monday, Jan. 30.
