FAU plans to play Georgia Southern despite COVID-19 outbreak

The Florida Atlantic Owls returned to the practice field on Wednesday ahead of Saturday's scheduled game versus Georgia Southern after 11 individuals within the FAU program tested positive for the coronavirus.

As noted by the Associated Press (h/t ESPN), Florida Atlantic head coach Willie Taggart remains confident his team will still be able to open its season this weekend despite the virus outbreak. Taggart also declined to disclose the exact number of players and/or staff members who tested positive.

Florida Atlantic canceled Tuesday's workout.

"I think the guys are well prepared for when things like that happen, when we have to stop practice, because we have done it before," Taggart said, per the school's official website. "That part wasn't an issue. I think as a coach you get frustrated. It is game week and you want to get going. That's just part of it right now. It is something we are dealing with and will keep moving forward."

Georgia Southern defeated Campbell 27-26 to begin its campaign last Saturday.
