Former Alabama OC Tommy Rees appears to be heading to the NFL
Gary Cosby Jr.-Tuscaloosa News / USA TODAY NETWORK

Former Alabama Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Tommy Rees didn't have to wait long for his next job opportunity.

After not being retained by new Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer, it looks like Rees is heading to the NFL.

The Athletic's Zac Jackson reported on Monday afternoon that the Cleveland Browns are working to hire Rees as their tight ends coach.

Jackson, who pointed out that nothing is official yet, noted that Rees is also expected to "have a role in the overall development of the pass game".

Rees joined Alabama's staff for the 2023 season, replacing former Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien, who left to become the New England Patriots' offensive coordinator (O'Brien is now back in the college game as Ohio State's offensive coordinator).

Alabama had the No. 4 scoring offense in the nation in 2022. This past season, the Crimson Tide had the No. 24 scoring offense in the nation, though it's worth pointing out that Alabama lost a couple of key offensive players, such quarterback Bryce Young and running back Jahmyr Gibbs, to the 2023 NFL Draft.

Prior to his time at Alabama, Rees served as Notre Dame's offensive coordinator. He was also an offensive assistant with the San Diego Chargers (now the Los Angeles Chargers) in 2016.
