Former Hoosiers football player Chris Beaty shot and killed in Indianapolis

Chris Beaty, who played football for the Indiana Hoosiers, was shot and killed Saturday night in Indianapolis, according to reports.

The 38-year-old Beaty suffered multiple gunshot wounds at an intersection and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Police could not confirm if the shootings were related to protests in response to the death of George Floyd.

Beaty was an offensive lineman for the Hoosiers from 2000-04 and remained active with the Hoosiers football program after his playing career ended. In April, he tweeted a photo of a Zoom call he had with Indiana coach Tom Allen, along with several other Hoosiers alumni.

Allen released a statement expressing his sadness at the news of Beaty's death.

"I am at a loss for words," Allen said. "The news of the passing of Chris Beaty is just devastating. Since I returned home to coach at Indiana, Chris embraced me, encouraged me and supported me! His passion for life and Indiana Football energized me every time we were together.

"He was one of our first alumni that displayed his unwavering support for what we are building here at Indiana and how we are building it. I am so heartbroken for his family and he will be deeply missed by all those that were blessed to call him a friend!"

Houston Rockets guard Eric Gordon, who attended Indiana, tweeted about Beaty's death, as did Big Ten Network analyst Gerry DiNardo, who coached Beaty on the Hoosiers.

Following his time at Indiana, Beaty had become a manager for several nightclubs in Indianapolis. In 2011, he founded Fresh Marketing LLC, an events promotion company.
