Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers was expected to be a high first round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft at the beginning of the 2024 college football season. He was unable to live up to that hype during his final season in college.

Ewers wasn't bad, but he did not put together the kind of year that was expected from him.

When all was said and done, Ewers completed 65.8% of his pass attempts for 3,472 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He also scored two more touchdowns on the ground.

Those numbers are not shabby at all. However, there were issues with his game that were noticed. His draft stock as slid quite a bit.

Bleacher Report has projected that Ewers will end up being a third round pick. That is far from the first round hype that he had been receiving.

Now, a former NFL quarterback has spoken out with words of caution to NFL teams about Ewers.

While speaking during a segment on "Chris Simms Unbuttoned," Chris Simms made it clear that he does not buy into the Ewers hype.

"Can he do that at a consistently high level? Not gonna make something off schedule very often," Simms said. "Injuries are a little concerning. He is a below average athlete for 2025. There are times where I go, I wish he was a little bit more aggressive as a whole, as the decision maker, because he has a gifted arm."

Simms did not hold back on Ewers. He clearly does not believe that the Texas star can become an elite quarterback at the professional level.

What kind of players does Bleacher Report think Ewers can become? They dropped an NFL comparison of Andy Dalton in their scouting report.

The 2025 NFL draft will begin in Green Bay on April 24. Ewers won't have to wait much longer to find out where he'll begin the next chapter of his career.
