With the addition of Jaydn Ott through the transfer portal, the Oklahoma Sooners running back room started to look a bit like a log jam. There were, and still are, a bunch of players in the room, all with good qualities, all fighting for snaps in 2025.
Of course, one was going to transfer out. The odd man out was going to leave in search of a better opportunity to showcase his skills. We already saw Sam Franklin transfer out earlier this offseason, along with some others, and this time, it was Gavin Sawchuk.
And, this was something anyone could see coming. Last season, Taylor Tatum, Jovante Barnes, and Xavier Robinson were the lead guys. Tatum and Robinson, being freshmen, both had their own individual streaks of great play. For Robinson, it was the end of the season, and he looked dominant.
You bring those three guys back for 2025 and then add in former Cal RB Jaydn Ott, who is considered one of the best RBs in the country, and Sawchuk is the obvious guy on the outside. In 2023, he was the guy. He had a streak of five games in a row with 100 yards rushing and showed a few other traits that made some think he could be the next big-time back at Oklahoma.
But he didn't have the season he thought he would in 2024. Sawchuk transferred to Florida State earlier this week in hopes of a bigger role on a Power Four team.
But, there is one problem there. When FSU made the transfer official on Twitter, they posted an edit, or a jersey swap if you will, of Sawchuk in an FSU jersey, just like many schools do on their social media. But the issue is that the player in the photo was not Sawchuk. In fact, it doesn't look anything like him, and many are claiming it looks like Atlanta rapper Lil Baby.
The post is still up, and it's beyond obvious that it's not Sawchuk in the picture, and that's honestly a bit disrespectful. But, Sawchuk has already made his decision, and I'm sure the Sooners fan base will be wishing him well in Tallahassee, Florida.
