A former Tennessee Vols quarterback finally has a new home in college football.

Quarterback Gaston Moore, who spent four seasons at Tennessee, entered the NCAA transfer portal just a few days after the Vols' loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes in the first round of the College Football Playoff.

On Tuesday, 247Sports' Matt Zenitz reported that Moore is transferring to USF.

The head coach at USF is former Vols offensive coordinator Alex Golesh.

Moore played under Golesh for two seasons (2021 and 2022) at Tennessee. He also played under Golesh at UCF in 2020 (which was Moore's true freshman season).

Senior Byrum Brown is expected to start at quarterback for USF.

Bryce Archie is expected to serve as Brown's backup. Archie, however, was selected in the 14th round of the 2025 MLB Draft. It's unclear if he'll be on USF's roster this fall.

That's why landing Moore seems like an insurance policy for Golesh and USF.

Moore passed for 273 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions during his time in Knoxville. He made his biggest impact last season when he played the entire second half of Tennessee's win against Mississippi State (after starter Nico Iamaleava suffered a head injury in the first half).
