Garrett Nussmeier’s Prank Call Catches LSU Teammates off Guard

In the middle of the college football offseason filled with practices and workouts, it may be important to blow off some steam. With the lofty expectations following Brian Kelly's LSU Tigers, it's no wonder the team's star player is having fun with his teammates.

Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier followed a recent online trend where a man calls a close male friend out of the blue, only to wish him a good night. If the humor of the act isn't apparent, the prank call is intended to disarm the intended party by upending gender stereotypes of male friendship and support.

In the YouTube short, Nussmeier can be seen leaning over his phone and telling several of his teammates goodnight.

The first call's recipient found himself repeating, in a questioning and confused way, "You were calling just to say good night?" He followed up that thought by saying, "I want you to think about what you just said. Love you too, brother," to which Nussmeier can be seen stifling his laughter.

The video continues with Nussmeier telling another teammate, "Goodnight, and I love you," while holding back his laughter. This time, the teammate was far more shocked.

"Hold up, what? Did you just say you love me? I mean, I love you, too. Nuss, I love you too, bruh," replied Nussmeier's teammate.

Nussmeier goes on to call several more teammates, and all of them take the joke in stride, communicating a reciprocity of love.

News outlets have reported that the trend of men saying goodnight to their friends began on the social media platform TikTok.

One notable example of the prank call highlighted by USA Today garnered more than 56,000 likes and 12,000 shares.
