WACO — Arizona State kicker Jesus Gomez was the hero Saturday, kicking a game-winning field goal to lift the Sun Devils to a 27-24 victory over Baylor.
ASU and Baylor played an even game throughout, going into halftime tied 10-10. The Sun Devils were able to hold off the electric Bears offense and held them scoreless in the third quarter. However, Baylor took the lead in the fourth when quarterback Sawyer Robertson connected with Michael Trigg, 17-16.
Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt threw a touchdown pass to Jordyn Tyson, followed by a successful two-point conversion to take a 24-17 lead. But Baylor’s Robertson connected with Trigg again in the final two minutes to tie the game.
Facing fourth-and-8 with two seconds remaining, it was up to Gomez to seal the win. The kicker delivered, making a game-winning field goal from 43 yards out.
