While Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels has experienced extreme highs and lows throughout his career in Lawrence, one consistency he has been unable to shake is his unfortunate luck with injuries.
This offseason is no different, as the veteran signal caller has to work to recover from knee surgery, which is still significant, despite being reported as a minor setback.
Kansas head coach Lance Leipold updated Daniels’ offseason progression at the Otto Schnellbacher Classic on Monday and expressed optimism for a full return to his former self.
“Yeah, you know, he’s right on schedule,” Leipold said. “He’s doing everything.
He even went as far as saying that Daniels was “throwing the ball as well as he’s seen him, of all the years he’s worked with Jalon.”
“He’s on schedule,” Leipold continued. “He’ll be doing everything as the guys get going here today.”
In his Kansas career, Daniels has thrown for more than 6,700 yards and 45 touchdowns but has struggled with consistency and staying on the field. In 2024, Daniels played 12 games, the most action he has seen in his career, but unfortunately, he took a step back due to some errant turnovers.
In the previous four seasons, the California native recorded just 12 interceptions. Last fall alone, he matched that total with a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 14-12.
Can Kansas get over the hump as a Big 12 title contender? The answer to that question will likely reside in what the 2025 version of Jalon Daniels looks like.
