'I don't think that's the plan' - Vols insider gives the latest on Tennessee's pursuit of 2026 5-star WR Tristen Keys

The Tennessee Vols, the Texas A&M Aggies, and the Miami Hurricanes are the top three programs that are hoping to flip 2026 five-star wide receiver Tristen Keys from the LSU Tigers.

Keys, 6-foot-3/180 lbs from Hattiesburg, MS, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 1 wide receiver in the nation. He's been committed to LSU since March.

Tennessee hosted Keys on an official visit in June, which reportedly went extremely well. Keys, however, doesn't appear to be close to flipping from LSU. But that doesn't mean he's locked in with the Tigers. Instead, it sounds like Keys will likely remain committed to LSU until he makes a final decision later this year.

VolQuest's Austin Price joined 104.5 The Zone's Ramon and Will on Tuesday and he discussed Keys' recruitment and the potential timeline for a decision.

"I think that Tennessee continues to have great dialogue with Tristen Keys," said Price. "He's one that, let's say if he flipped tomorrow to Texas A&M, he's [still] going to visit Tennessee this fall. He's going to visit Miami this fall. He's going to visit A&M this fall. I don't think him flipping right now does him any good. I don't think that's the plan.

"I think the plan is to just stay committed to LSU and take your visits. I think he'll be in Knoxville this fall. He'll be in College Station this fall. And the rubber will meet the road sometime probably in late November or early December for Tristen Keys. And they'll go from there."

This battle is a long way from being over. Which is why it's important for Tennessee's young wide receivers to thrive this fall (important for winning games and for recruiting).

I think Keys is a big fan of Tennessee, but he probably wants to see the program replicate the success that wide receivers had in Josh Heupel’s offense during his first two seasons in Knoxville before the five-star wide receiver seriously considers flipping to the Orange and White.
