The injury report for Penn State football’s game against UCLA has been released.
The big question for each team has been the status of Nick Singleton (Penn State) and Ethan Garbers (UCLA).
Garbers got hurt in last week’s loss to Oregon at the Rose Bowl and Singleton wasn’t seen by media at Wednesday’s weekly practice viewing window.
Per the injury report, both are questionable.
Despite what the report says, Singleton is “fine and expected to play” against UCLA Saturday, per a report by Matt Zenitz of 247Sports.
Penn State, a four-touchdown favorite, would almost certainly beat UCLA without Nick Singleton but it certainly helps to have him in the fold.
For a few days, many wondered if Singleton would be in the fold. He wasn’t seen Wednesday during the media’s weekly practice viewing window. At coach James Franklin’s post-practice scrum, the Penn State boss predictably didn’t give any insight into his player’s status. The following afternoon, RB coach Ja’Juan Seider was asked about Singleton, and like Franklin, didn’t give anything away.
If Garbers can’t go, UCLA backup Justyn Martin would likely be the starter.
Garbers put up respectable numbers last season, completing 67% of his passes and throwing 11 touchdowns to three interceptions. UCLA was also better as a team, finishing 8-5. This season, Garbers has completed 57.3% of his passes, throwing three touchdowns and six interceptions, and UCLA is 1-3 with losses to Indiana (42-13 at home) LSU (34-17 in Baton Rouge) and UCLA (34-13 at home). This Penn State defense, which allowed 39 yards of total offense in the second half against Illinois, would be a tough out for any quarterback.
Here’s the full injury report for Penn State.
