Iowa State Football Finally Gets Some Positive News

Iowa State finally got a little good news, and it came from a place that’s been pretty quiet lately, recruiting. Three-star cornerback Torrence Sanders flipped his commitment from Washington State to the Cyclones, giving ISU fans something to actually feel decent about after a week filled with portal losses.

Sanders is a 6’1”, 180-pound corner out of New Orleans. He’s ranked as a top-50 player in Louisiana and had been committed to Wazzu since December 3rd, but the obvious came into play with his head coach, Jimmy Rogers, heading to Iowa State. He took to social media to post his commitment and kept it simple, dropping a “Philippians 4:13 – I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

This isn’t some huge roster-changing move or five-star splash, but let’s be honest, Iowa State fans aren’t asking for fireworks right now. They’re just looking for signs of life. After watching a pretty significant chunk of last year’s contributors hit the portal, it was starting to feel like the offseason had gone completely off the rails.

Between a mass string of portal departures and former players like Jeremiah Cooper calling out the fanbase, it can be easy for news to slip through the cracks. With his commitment, Sanders became Iowa State’s 17th addition in the Class of 2026, joining seven players who have signed their NLI and nine other hard commits.

It may not stop the bleeding when it comes to departures, but a sign of momentum is a really nice change of pace. Torrence Sanders might not move the needle nationally, but in Ames, he showed up at the right time.
