The Alabama Crimson Tide fell short of a College Football Playoff berth this season in head coach Kalen DeBoer’s first year at the helm. However, they still send quarterback Jalen Milroe with high regard as he now looks to the NFL draft as his next endeavor.
Milroe’s final step in college football, which plays a significant role in the evaluation process, is the Senior Bowl—an event he’s been participating in this week. While he’s impressed on the field, his off-field accomplishments have also stood out.
During an interview with NFL Network on Wednesday, Milroe was asked how winning the Academic Heisman Award, also known as the William V. Campbell Trophy, which is given to the top scholar-athlete, has helped him in his mental game on the field.
"It's all about the details that come with both." Milroe said. "Being detail-oriented, of course, but numbers are a big factor when it comes to pass protection, when it comes to numbers on the field, and when it comes to progressions. So there are so many things you can learn from school. For me, at the quarterback position, it's all about utilizing my keys and maximizing every opportunity when a defense presents different looks. So I definitely correlate the two when I have the opportunity."

Following this, his GPA during his time at Alabama began to turn heads, and it was impressive to say the least. Milroe became just the seventh NFF National Scholar-Athlete from Alabama, graduating in December 2023 with a 3.52 GPA and a degree in management with a concentration in entrepreneurship. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in sports management.
The talent on the field has never been in question, and neither are his capabilities in the classroom. However, from now until the NFL draft in April, Milroe will have a lot to prove to NFL scouts and teams if he wants to raise his draft stock, which is one of the more unpredictable ones at the moment. Still, he’ll be playing in the Senior Bowl on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. EST.
