The Alabama Crimson Tide is entering unfamiliar territory in 2025, with Jalen Milroe now with the Seattle Seahawks.
Head coach Kalen DeBoer named Ty Simpson the starting quarterback after an offseason competition featuring former five-star prospect Keelon Russell and Washington Huskies transfer Austin Mack.
Alabama held its first preseason scrimmage on Saturday, and DeBoer had a warning for the rest of college football when it came to the quarterback play, via On3's Charlie Potter.
The head coach bragged on his quarterbacks, alleging that there had only been three interceptions thrown all camp. He also stated that every quarterback has had a completion percentage of 65% or better.
"The biggest thing with those guys, the quarterbacks, is they’ve done a great job, first of all, taking care of the football," DeBoer said. "No picks today. A few touchdown passes — I don’t know the exact number, but a few touchdown passes from all three of them. The completion percentage over the course of camp for all three has been in that range we want. Would like to have a minimum of 65%. They’ve just done a good job of being consistent when they take care of the football. I think there’s been, maybe, three picks all camp when you talk about 7-on-7 drills, team drills."
Simpson has been busy this offseason, taking his talents to the prestigious Manning Passing Academy, where scouts said he had the best arm talent at the event. Simpson earned the starting job after being the backup at Alabama for the last three seasons.
Ryan Williams is no doubt going to be one of Simpson's top targets this year after the breakout true freshman campaign in 2024. Williams led the Crimson Tide with 865 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.
SEC Network's Chris Doering named Williams as the best wideout in the SEC ahead of the 2025 season.
If what DeBoer says is true, then Alabama will be a problem in 2025.
