Arizona State's Keith Abney III is one of the top cornerback prospects in the 2026 NFL Draft, with a well-rounded skill set and the kind of high-level athleticism that will earn him plenty of fans in draft rooms across the league. His knack for making big plays in the passing game should make him a lock to come off the board at some point on Day 2.
Here's everything NFL fans need to know about Abney heading into this year's draft:
Height: 6-0
Weight: 190
Age: 21
A national speed skating champion in his younger days, Abney is still moving at light speed now that he’s on the gridiron. He’s a fluid athlete who makes smooth transitions thanks to his polished footwork and loose hips, and his intelligence makes him even quicker when it comes to diagnosing routes and breaking on the ball. He’s shown the versatility to line up on the outside or in the slot, with the movement skills and toughness to handle every style of pass-catcher. Abney has a physical playing style from snap to whistle, staying in the receiver’s pocket and jostling for position from the initial release, through route breaks, and at the catch point.
Abney can get a little too greedy at times, jumping route breaks too early in search of takeaways, and he can whiff at the line of scrimmage in press coverage when he guesses wrong instead of reacting to the receiver’s release. His physicality can get him in trouble at times, initiating too much contact that will certainly get flagged more often in the pros. He’s not afraid to come down in the box and help out in run support, but his tackling technique needs a ton of improvement if he wants to be effective in that department.
A well-rounded player with a strong blend of physical and mental tools, Abney’s inside/outside versatility and complete skill set gives him valuable scheme versatility at the next level. He’ll need to rein in his physicality and gambling tendencies, but the framework is there for a high-quality starter sooner than later.
