With Jaxson Dart departing for the 2025 NFL Draft after three strong seasons of breaking records at Ole Miss one question loomed large as spring football approached for Lane Kiffin and his Rebels.

Would the young phenom quarterback Austin Simmons finally go all-in on football for Ole Miss, abandoning his pursuit of baseball with the Rebels since he will now be the full-time starter in 2025 and beyond?

Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss Football fans got their answer over the weekend as multiple sources confirmed that Austin Simmons would officially be leaving baseball to focus all his efforts on football. This is great news for fans who might have worried about the split interest heading into the spring.

For those unfamiliar, Ole Miss' new starting quarterback Austin Simmons is just an unbelievably talented and intelligent human being. He was able to graduate high school two years early with a GPA above a 4.0 while playing both football and baseball at a high enough level to pursue both potentially professionally.

Simmons began to show flashes of greatness for Ole Miss baseball in the spring of 2024 when he went 2-0 as a pitcher, striking out 20 batters in just 14 innings pitched. But then of course he showed even more promise on the football field this past fall in limited action.

Simmons dominated in junk time against Arkansas last fall completing all three of his passes for 47 yards and a touchdown. Then he immediately followed that up the next week by leading an early scoring drive against the Georgia Bulldogs in Ole Miss' impressive 28-10 win. Simmons completed five of six passes for 64 yards, showing that he was already ready to take the reins from Jaxson Dart when the time came.

Now that Simmons will be focused full-time on football this spring fans can expect him to continue making significant leaps towards greatness for Ole Miss, likely following up on the impressive flashes with a strong 2025 college football performance.

If there were any doubts that Simmons would be "the guy" this season, there should be no longer. Lane Kiffin did bring in Pierce Clarkson from Louisville via the Transfer Portal to offer some dual-threat upside at backup, but this Rebels team is now Simmons' to lead.
