Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin hilariously explained this week why a former Tennessee Vols head coach won't talk to him.

Kiffin famously spent one season as Tennessee's head coach. In late 2008, Kiffin was hired to replace longtime Vols head coach Phillip Fulmer.

Around that time, Paul Finebaum, at some point, said on his show that Kiffin was the reason that Fulmer was fired. And Fulmer apparently believed that.

"I screwed up because I was trying to get fired to make sure I could get the Tennessee job," said Kiffin on Monday during an appearance on The Paul Finebaum Show. "You didn’t know that. I think you reported one time that I actually got Phillip Fulmer fired. Which wasn't true at all. And Phil Fulmer never spoke to me because of you reporting that.

"Never once (did Fulmer talk to Kiffin). I tried to reach out to him, tried to go over and meet him, and he wouldn’t talk to me because he was convinced Paul Finebaum said I got him fired."

Finebaum made sure to point out that Fulmer doesn't talk to him either.

In 2017, college football reporter Pete Thamel reported that Fulmer had a "strong disdain" for Kiffin.

Maybe the two can finally clear the air now that over 15 years have passed since Kiffin was surprisingly hired to replace Fulmer on Rocky Top.
