On Sunday, after a long, drawn-out process, Lane Kiffin announced he would be leaving the Ole Miss Rebels after six seasons—including an 11-1 record and a near College Football Playoff bid—to take over at LSU, agreeing to a seven-year, $91 million deal with the Tigers.
On the same day, Kiffin brought several staff members with him and was expected to follow, including current Ole Miss offensive coordinator Charlie Weis. However, Weis has been granted permission to run the Rebels’ offense during their playoff run.
Kiffin and LSU continued to bolster their staff on Tuesday, as Football Scoop reported that Senior Executive Director of Recruiting Dwike Wilson will also be joining Kiffin in the Bayou.
Kiffin has faced considerable backlash since deciding to leave Ole Miss, particularly with the College Football Playoff approaching.
He reportedly requested permission from Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter to coach the Rebels in the postseason, but that request was denied.
Despite all the criticism, Kiffin has been clear about his excitement to take on his new role at LSU, calling it the "best job in football."
“Having watched this place for a long time, having been on the other sideline in this stadium, this place is different, and that’s why we’re here,” Kiffin said. “LSU is the best job in football. When you take the history, tradition, passion, and the great players in the state of Louisiana ... when you’re in Tiger Stadium on Saturday night, there is nothing like it.”
