The Ole Miss football team had one of the more talented rosters in college football last season under head coach Lane Kiffin. NFL teams began to take notice as the Rebels had 11 players invited to the NFL combine, featuring multiple players from both sides of the ball.
Quarterback Jaxson Dart has been the talk of the group in the pre-draft cycle, but not everyone thinks he'll be the first Rebel selected. On Tuesday, NFL.com's Lance Zierlein released a mock draft in which cornerback Trey Amos is selected No. 29 overall by the Washington Commanders, making him the first Ole Miss player chosen.
Amos had an incredible campaign for the Rebels in his fifth and final collegiate season. He recorded 50 tackles, three interceptions, 13 passes defended and a forced fumble last season at Ole Miss, and often times he locked down an entire side of the field for the defense.
While many consider him a second-round talent, Zierlein regards him as one of the very best cornerbacks in the draft. Washington could certainly use help at cornerback after swinging and missing on Mississippi State's Emmanuel Forbes a few drafts ago.
Dart may be the most popular Rebel in the draft, but there are close to 10 players from Ole Miss who may hear their names called during the NFL Draft. Where exactly they end up in relation to each other is not as important to Rebels fans, as they just want their former players to land in a spot where they can be productive. But knowing these guys, they'll want friendly bragging rights over each other.
