LSU Announces Whit Weeks Development on Wednesday

The LSU Tigers are set to play in their first game this season without head coach Brian Kelly after he was fired from the program on Oct. 26. Kelly was in his fourth year as LSU's coach, going 34-14 in his tenure with the Tigers. Through eight games this season, Kelly led LSU to a 5-3 record, which resulted in his firing.

Frank Wilson, who coached the UTSA Roadrunners for four years, was named the interim head coach for LSU after Kelly was fired.

Kelly lost his final two games at LSU to the Vanderbilt Commodores and Texas A&M Aggies. One key reason for both of these losses was the absence of star linebacker Whit Weeks. The junior from Watkinsville, Georgia, has not played since suffering a bone bruise on his ankle against the South Carolina Gamecocks on Oct. 11.

Weeks is one of the top linebackers in the country, being named a First Team All-SEC player last season. In 50 career games, Weeks has accumulated 203 total tackles, 16 tackles for loss, five sacks, two forced fumbles and one interception.

So far this season, having played six of LSU's eight games, Weeks has 29 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, one sack and one fumble recovery. With the Tigers set to take on the No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday, Weeks' availability has been in question.

On Monday, Wilson revealed the plan for Weeks leading up to LSU's battle against Alabama, saying he hopes Weeks would be able to ramp up his time at practice during the week.

On Wednesday, however, Wilson revealed the linebacker is doubtful to play on Saturday because he has not practiced yet this week.

"LSU linebacker Whit Weeks is doubtful vs. Alabama, per Frank Wilson," On3 reporter Pete Nakos said. "The first-team All-SEC LB has missed the last two games. He hasn't practiced this week."

If Weeks is unable to play Saturday, it would be a big loss for a defense that is in need of a spark after allowing 49 points to Texas A&M in its last game.

Saturday's matchup between LSU (5-3, 2-3 SEC) and Alabama (7-1, 5-0 SEC) is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET at Bryant-Denny Stadium on ABC.
