It's been quite a season of change for Michigan Football with 18 players headed to the NFL Combine, Jim Harbaugh heading to the Los Angeles Chargers, and some of his staff following along with him, but Sherrone Moore continues making good hires.
Today, per Bruce Feldman of The Athletic, Michigan added former Louisiana defensive coordinator LaMar Morgan as their new defensive backs coach.
SOURCE: Michigan is expected to hire Louisiana defensive coordinator LaMar Morgan as the Wolverines new defensive backs coach. The former Vandy assistant is very well-regarded in coaching circles. Good get for Sherrone Moore. @mzenitz first reported the hire.

It's an incredible hire. LaMar Morgan was a star safety for the Ragin' Cajuns from 2003 to 2007, coached cornerbacks for Vanderbilt in 2021, then spent the last two years as defensive coordinator for Louisiana specializing with their safeties.
Morgan has an incredible knack for coaching up his teams to create more turnovers. In his first year as defensive coordinator the Ragin' Cajuns leaped forward in forcing turnovers, ranking 14th nationally in interceptions. The year prior he helped the Vanderbilt defense jump from just two interceptions in 2020 to 13 in 2021.
Michigan's secondary already stole away 16 interceptions in 2023. If they're even more effective forcing turnovers in 2024 that might make their defense near perfect.
The timing of the hire might be perfect too. Michigan safety Keon Sabb just hopped in the Transfer Portal. If Morgan's first call is to Sabb there may still be time to keep him in Ann Arbor as the team would certainly like to avoid losing one of the nation's top defensive backs.
Sherrone Moore tallies another offseason win here. If he keeps this up Michigan might just be able to maintain momentum and crush their preseason team win total and expectations.
