Fresh off their dramatic victory over Ohio State, Michigan football and head coach Sherrone Moore are capitalizing on their momentum in the recruiting world. Here are the latest developments in Michigan's recruiting efforts:

Former Ohio State Edge Rusher Looking at Michigan

Four-star edge rusher Zahir Mathis, who recently decommitted from Ohio State, is scheduled for an Ann Arbor visit this weekend. The 6-foot-6, 225-pound prospect ranks as the No. 75 overall player in the 2025 class and is the sixth-ranked edge rusher nationally. Michigan's timing couldn't be better, as they need to replenish their edge position with Josiah Stewart, Derrick Moore, and TJ Guy set to depart. While Michigan faces competition from Florida State, Miami, USC, Penn State, Georgia, and Oregon, getting Mathis on campus is a crucial first step.

Tight End Situation: Understanding Olesh's Flip

Andrew Olesh, who previously committed to Michigan, has explained his decision to flip to Penn State. The 2025 class's No. 3 tight end cited Penn State's strong tradition at the position and his relationship with coach Ty Howle as key factors. Michigan now holds just one tight end commitment in the 2025 class with three-star Eli Owens.

Five-Star OL Battle Brewing

In what could be a massive addition to their 2025 class, Michigan has emerged as one of two frontrunners for five-star offensive lineman Ty Haywood, currently committed to Alabama. Along with Texas Tech, the Wolverines are positioned to potentially flip Haywood, who won't sign until February. Adding Haywood would give Michigan two five-star offensive linemen in the 2025 class, joining Andrew Babalola.

Notable Quick Hits:

  • Top 2026 Prospect Visiting: Jackson Cantwell, the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2026 class, will visit Michigan on Sunday after stopping at Ohio State Saturday. The five-star offensive lineman's physical style aligns well with Moore's smashmouth approach.
  • Legacy Commitment: In a significant development, Chase Herbstreit, son of ESPN analyst and former Ohio State quarterback Kirk Herbstreit, has committed and signed with Michigan.

Michigan's recruiting efforts appear to be gaining momentum following their victory over Ohio State, with several high-profile prospects showing serious interest in the program.
