Michigan star RB Blake Corum says he's cleared for 2023 season

Blake Corum has a chance to be arguably the best running back in the country in 2023 and easily the best running back in the Big Ten.

He's coming off a junior season that saw him rush 247 times for 1,463 yards and 18 touchdowns. The impressive thing about those stats is that he only played in 12 games for the Wolverines in 2022, and he only had two carries in the season finale against Ohio State. Corum injured his left knee the weekend before against Illinois and though he gave it a go against OSU, he was removed from the game.

Michigan went on to play in the Big Ten title game and in the College Football Playoff without Corum, and his status over the summer has been trending in a positive direction but hadn't yet been determined.

That's no longer the case, as the senior running back announced at Big Ten Media Days that's he's cleared to play and feeling good.

"I had a doctor's appointment the other day, and I believe he cleared me. I might have to double-check to make sure that was the last appointment, but I'm cleared," Corum said, per ESPN. "But I think I'm good. Now it's just being smart, going into camp and doing whatever I have to do to make sure this team is in the best position to win and attack the season."

That's a positive status update but Corum also dove even further into how he's feeling now that he's back on the football field and unhindered.

“I would say I’m back. I’m back to me,” he explained, per On3. “I’m doing everything, cutting, everything. I’m 100%. I’m excited to be back with the fellas. That’s why I’m so excited for next Tuesday, camp to start. I smell it. It’s going to be a great year.”

Corum will be the featured cog in a potent running back stable that will also feature junior Donovan Edwards, who rushed for 991 yards and seven touchdowns last season and is also dangerous out of the backfield as a receiver.

Per BetMGM, Michigan has the fourth-best odds to win it all this season at +850. Having a healthy Corum back in action is undoubtedly a huge reason for that confidence in the Wolverines.
