INDIANAPOLIS -- It's been a magical year and almost everything senior Mike Sainristil imagined when he chose to return to Michigan for his final year.
On Saturday night, Sainristil and Michigan won its third Big Ten title in a row after defeating Iowa and the defensive back was named Griffen-Grange Most Valuable Player award voted by the media in attendance.
Sainristil has been phenomenal all season and is always in the right place at the right time. He did not disappoint on Saturday in a 26-0 win over Iowa.
He had two forced fumbles, one on which came against quarterback Deacon Hill. Sainristil didn't pop off the charts on Saturday night with one tackle and one PBU, but he made so many plays that don't get recorded on the stat sheet.
On the opening drive, Sainristil got the Wolverines' defense rolling when he had a timely blitz on Hill and forced an errant pass. Iowa went three and out and the rest of the game was history.
Sainristil finished the regular season with a team-high five interceptions this season.
Sainristil is the third consecutive Michigan player to win the award. Aidan Hutchinson won in 2021 in a win against Iowa and Donovan Edwards won MVP in 2022 after a win against Purdue.
