The Georgia Bulldogs will be without freshman wide receiver Talyn Taylor for some time, starting in Week 6 against Kentucky.
Taylor sustained an upper-body injury at practice on Thursday that will require surgery. For now, there is no definitive timetable for his recovery, though he is expected to make a full recovery. It's a heartbreaking moment for the former five-star recruit out of Geneva, Illinois, whose career at Georgia is just getting started.
Taylor appeared in four games this season before an injury sidelined him. During that time, he recorded two catches for 28 yards.
His mother, Venus Taylor, expressed confidence in his return, sharing on social media that his comeback will be even stronger:
"I will forever be proud of my son. He is an amazing son, football player, and person. His body of work speaks for itself and his love for his family and teammates, the game, and UGA is truly admirable. Prayers up for a speedy recovery son. Your comeback will be one of the best stories ever. Mark my words!"
Taylor heads to the sidelines following a costly drop in Georgia's loss to Alabama. He'll now not only have to mentally move on from that, but also stay patient while he heals from his injury.
The good news is that head coach Kirby Smart and the rest of the team have his back with no worries about him bouncing back.
“Talyn’s deal was tough, but Talyn will grow from it,” Smart said after the Alabama loss. “He’s a tough, competitive kid; he practices his butt off. People don’t give him enough credit for, he’s changed our punt team in terms of, he’s replaced Arian and a Dom as a gunner and been really elite. Every time we’ve called his number, he’s answered it. He’s going to continue to do that. I mean, the guy’s a worker. I told him that, look, we’re going to come back at you and continue to use you, and just keep getting better. That’s all you can do, keep getting better.”
Sacovie White-Helton is expected to step up in Talyn's place.
