NCAAF Week 1: Boise State Broncos vs. Washington Huskies betting picks, preview

These teams meet fairly often and this season there is quite a lot on the line for both. For Boise State, maybe they could parlay a big season into a new conference invite, while the Huskies are legit playoff contenders as they exit the Pac-12. This might be the best game of Week 1.

Boise State Broncos vs. Washington Huskies Betting Trends and Odds

Saturday, Sept. 2, 2023 - 3:30 p.m. ET

Odds: Washington -14.5, Over/under 585, Washington -700 | Boise State +380

These teams might be the best in their respective conferences this season. However, that spread is telling you that there is still a pretty sizable gap. That is mostly because Washington was super explosive last season and they brought the whole gang back on offense. They play defense too, which is why many think Washington could be headed back to the playoffs. This will be our first chance to see them this season. I am excited to see how they look as Boise State should be very buttoned down.

Picks for Boise State vs. Washington

Washington -14.5 & Over 37.5 (-115)

I am looking for a lot of offense in the opener from Washington. I am not a fan of that hook, but if Washington is scoring like I expect they will this season, it should not be a problem. Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. could be even better this season which is a scary thought for defenses. Boise State will do its best to try and slow things down with its versatile ground attack but that is going to be hard to stick with once the Broncos get behind. I think the Huskies can double up Boise State and that should be enough to cover both numbers.

With that hook I actually like the team points total even more than the side play. They are correlated though. It is unlikely that UW covers with a 20-3 final score. Maybe bet the team total now and see how the side moves throughout the week.
