Tennessee Vols redshirt sophomore running back DeSean Bishop had a huge game in UT's 34-31 win against the Arkansas Razorbacks this past weekend.
Bishop rushed for 146 yards and one touchdown on just 14 carries (10.4 yards per carry) against the Razorbacks. It was Bishop's best game of the season.
The Tennessee native has established himself as the top option in the run game for the Volunteers this season.
Bishop will face stiffer competition this weekend when Tennessee travels to Tuscaloosa for a big game against Alabama.
Bama isn't the same Bama from the Nick Saban era, but they're still a talented team that's among the top programs in college football.
On3's Andy Staples said on Sunday that Bishop is not going to average 10 yards per carry against Alabama.
"It's going to be harder for Tennessee to move the ball against Alabama," said Staples. "Is DeSean Bishop going to average 10 yards a carry like he did on Saturday? No, he's not. So this puts the onus on Joey Aguilar. This is going to be a Joey Aguilar versus Ty Simpson situation."
Maybe Staples is right. I don't have a crystal ball, so I can't tell you what Bishop is going to do against Alabama.
What I do know, though, is that Alabama allowed Georgia running back Chauncey Bowens to average 10 yards per carry a few weeks ago. So it's not like the Crimson Tide are shutting everyone down in the run game.
By the way, Bishop suffered an injury in the win against Arkansas, but Vols head coach Josh Heupel said on Monday that the talented running back should be good to go against Alabama.
“I feel like DeSean will be ready to go in this one," said Heupel.
Tennessee and Alabama will kick off at 7:30 PM ET on Saturday night.
