In hindsight, it should've been so obvious.
Take 70 new players without a warm-up game, and roll them out against a nine-win team that returned just about everyone and added more good parts, and then mix in a grouchy, disrespected attitude, and you get TCU 48, North Carolina 14.
Everyone spent the week dunking on Bill Belichick, but don't discount the idea that Monday night's clunker was more about TCU being really good than the Tar Heels being just that brutal.
With Richmond up next, there's a shot to quickly turn things around. But first, Belichick's team needs a great game over a Charlotte team in a rebuild.

Don't blow off the idea that Charlotte has the best college football coach on the field.
Of course, Bill Belichick is the greatest football coach of all time, but at his age and with his skill set, the jury will be out until he turns North Carolina into a player. Charlotte got itself an accomplished, conference champion head coach in Tim Ablin from Ohio.
The 49ers have to slow the game down to a dead stop. They need to generate a little more pressure in the backfield than they did against App State, they must win the mistake battle, and ...
North Carolina has good players. They played like they'd never worked together before, which was actually the case. The timing was off - Gio Lopez had a hard time hitting his throws - and the line didn't generate any sort of a push for the ground game.
There won't be any problems with that this week because ...
Uhhhhhh, everyone, you do know that Charlotte got walloped by App State, right?
As bad as North Carolina looked against TCU, that was Charlotte giving up close to 600 yards to the Mountaineers. The lines weren't able to hold up, and they're about to have an even harder day against a Tar Heel bunch that will come out roaring to put the embarrassment in the past right away.
