Notre Dame football catches a massive break against Georgia Tech, and the game hasn't even started yet

Notre Dame football is set for another big test this Saturday when they take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets down at Mercedes Benz Stadium. On paper, Georgia Tech has a lot of dynamic playmakers that could give the Irish defense some issues. It was announced by ESPN college football writer Pete Thamel that their offense will be without quarterback Haynes King, which is a massive blow for their chances.

King was originally injured last week during the team’s 41-34 victory over North Carolina with an upper body injury. He has been listed as day-to-day this week by the team, but obviously wasn’t in good enough shape to give it a go on Saturday.

Not only is Georgia Tech going to be without their starting quarterback but arguably their most dynamic weapon as well. On the season, King has thrown for 1,568 yards and eight touchdowns, and completed over 71 percent of his passes while throwing just one interception. King has also rushed for 353 yards and six more scores on the ground.

This is good news for the Notre Dame secondary in their first game without All-American cornerback Benjamin Morrison, who was lost for the season with a hip injury. The secondary is talented, but still very inexperienced at cornerback.

They will now face off against backup signal caller Zach Pyron. While he isn’t very experienced, Pyron is a talented kid who brings tools to the table. Notre Dame must be ready regardless of King not being available.
