The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are coming off of a season that saw them go from biggest disappointment in the sport after losing to Northern Illinois, to making it all the way to the title game.
Heading into 2025, the goal for the program is to avenge its 34-23 loss to Ohio State, and hoist the championship trophy for the first time since 1988. If they are able to reach that goal or come within reach of it, the expectation is that running back Jeremiyah Love will have played a huge role.
Love burst onto the scene as a sophomore this past season, rushing for 1,125 yards and 17 touchdowns. Heading into 2025, he is considered one of the best backs in the country, and in a recent interview with On3's Pete Nakos revealed he is gunning for the Heisman Trophy.
In that same interview, Love also provided a very neutral update on Notre Dame's quarterback battle, as the program is tasked with replacing Riley Leonard. Aside from telling Nakos he hasn't "paid attention to the quarterback battle," he revealed he believes in both CJ Carr and Kenny Minchey.
“I care more about my room,” Love said. “I know we got great coaches, and whoever ends up playing quarterback, I know that they’re going to be ready.”
Unlike in past years where the Fighting Irish have turned to the portal for their starting quarterback, landing Leonard from Duke and his predecessor Sam Hartman from Wake Forest, Notre Dame is in the midst of one of the sport's biggest battles.
Head coach Marcus Freeman will be choosing between a former five-star in Carr who has no career stats, and a former four-star in Minchey who has three career passing attempts for four yards.
While it's hard to imagine Love doesn't have somewhat of an idea as to who will be handing him the ball, clearly this battle is far from settled.
