WeThe Ohio State Buckeyes open the season against the Texas Longhorns on Aug. 30, and when they do, they’ll be facing one of their former players.
Ohio State’s defensive line took a hit last winter when they lost DT Hero Kanu to the transfer portal. Kanu was expected to be a key part of the interior defensive line rotation for the Buckeyes.
When the Buckeyes host Texas, one Ohio State player already has plans to talk some smack to Kanu.
“I was looking up a bunch of trash talk in German for him, just so the ref doesn’t get us on a couple,” Ohio State center Carson Hinzman said on Tuesday.
Hinzman and Kanu were roommates at Ohio State and remain close friends, even after Kanu’s transfer. Since Kanu is from Germany and fluent in the language, Hinzman’s plan to trash talk him in German adds a humorous twist.
Kanu, a member of Ohio State’s 2022 recruiting class, spent three seasons as Hinzman’s teammate in Columbus. Now, the two will be lining up against each other as opponents to start the 2025 college football season.
“I’m pumped. It’s going to be fun to see him,” Hinzman admitted. “Me and him have been best friends for the past couple years, living together. It’s a blessing to be able to go and play against him.”

Ohio State opens the season ranked No. 3 in the country and is a slight favorite at home over the No. 1 Longhorns.
“Wherever he’s at, I’m pretty excited to throw a double-team on him and hopefully roll him over a couple times,” Hinzman said.
