Ohio State went on a remarkable run after losing to Michigan last November, ultimately winning a National Championship. It took four big wins over four major programs for the Buckeyes to claim the inaugural title in the new 12-team College Football Playoff.
The Buckeyes defeated Tennessee, Oregon, Texas, and Notre Dame to capture their first National Championship in a decade. Ohio State bouncing back the way they did was the best-case scenario—and they delivered.
Freshman Jeremiah Smith played a key role in the win over Notre Dame, finishing with a touchdown and 88 receiving yards on five catches. He’s still dealing with Notre Dame folks on social media months after that game.
Former Notre Dame and NFL running back Jonas Gray took to X to claim that Fighting Irish cornerback Leonard Moore got the better of Smith in the title game. Smith responded with just two words:

Texas was the only team to find some success against Smith, often double-teaming him. But doing so opened up opportunities for other Buckeyes—opportunities Texas paid for. In 2025, teams will again focus on trying to contain Smith in his sophomore season. That attention will create chances for players like Carnell Tate, Brandon Inniss, and Max Klare to shine.
Smith is usually a soft-spoken athlete, but this isn’t the first time he’s responded directly when someone called him out. After racking up over 1,300 receiving yards last year, the star wideout looks poised for another huge season in 2025 with the Buckeyes.
There is a chance that the Buckeyes see Notre Dame again in the postseason in 2025 and the matchup worth watching is already obvious.
