Oklahoma State Defense Breakdown
Do SOMETHING against the run.
The Cowboy run defense hasn’t been solid for years, but last season was something different. Teams shredded the front seven, allowing 300 yards or more three times and three touchdowns or more seven times. Changes were made to boost up the size and depth, but the real help will be if the D gets help from the O, so …
Zane Flores, QB RFr.
Or Hauss Hejny. No matter what, the Cowboys need a quarterback who can keep the chains moving. Flores is a 6-3 passer who missed all of last year hurt, and now he has to hit the ground running. There’s no time to ease into the gig with a date at Oregon in the first week of September.
Top Transfer In: Kyran Duhon, EDGE Soph.
The Cowboy pass rush was already solid, and it added one of the best prospects in the transfer portal. Duhon came up with 43 tackles with seven sacks for UTEP, and now he should be a key part of the rotation.
Top Transfer Out: De’Zhaun Stribling, WR Sr.
A former Washington State transfer, Stribling overcame a banged up first year with Oklahoma State by catching 52 passes for 882 yards and six scores, averaging 17 yards per grab. He’ll be a dangerous deep threat for the Ole Miss attack.
Baylor, Sept. 27
It’s a winnable game for Oklahoma State, and this is a test against a Baylor team that should be dangerous. If OSU is back to form, and if 2024 truly is in the rearview mirror, breaking the conference losing streak shouldn’t be a problem.

There’s no way the defense is THAT bad again, and there’s no way the offense is THAT mediocre and inconsistent again.
There’s no true layup in the Big 12 - Cincinnati, Houston, and Kansas will be better - but UCF might be close. That’s the road for the Cowboys late in the season, and going to Texas Tech and Arizona won’t be easy.
But if the Cowboys are back to normal, and that’s nowhere near a given considering all the moving parts, it’ll come down to Kansas State, at UCF, and Iowa State.
Forget about winning the Big 12 Championship, but the finishing kick should be make-or-break for a bowl appearance.
The Cowboys will get there.
Set The Oklahoma State Cowboys Win Total At … 6.5
Likely Wins: Tulsa, UT Martin
50/50 Games: at Arizona, Cincinnati, Baylor, Houston, Iowa State, at Kansas, Kansas State, at Texas Tech, at UCF
Likely Losses: at Oregon
