Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks have been hot on the recruiting trail over the past couple of months, taking what was once viewed as a lackluster 2026 class and turning it into one ranked inside the top 10 nationally after a few high-profile commitments.
While the Ducks added players like 5-star OT Immanuel Iheanacho, 5-star safety Jett Washington, and a handful of 4-star prospects ranked among the top 100 players in the nation, there are fans outside of Eugene who are crying foul — or fowl.
The wide-ranging complaint is that players, after committing to Oregon, are receiving improper benefits in the form of ratings boosts. This long-lasting storyline was no better exemplified than this past week when the new Ducks' 4-star QB, Bryson Beaver, jumped up to No. 44 in On3's top 300 players after previously being unranked.
Just a matter of months ago, Beaver was a 3-star player who was committed to Boise State. Less than 24 hours after Oregon extended an offer to Beaver, On3 bumped him up to a 4-star, and now a few weeks after he flipped his commitment to the Ducks, the recruiting website change him from the No. 19 QB in the class, to the No. 6 QB.
Not only did Beaver rise, but he jumped ahead of both 4-star QB Ryder Lyons and 4-star QB Jonas Williams, the former of whom was a 5-star prospect that passed on the Ducks to commit to BYU, and the latter of whom flipped his commitment from Oregon to USC this offseason.
On3 isn't the only site that fans are upset with. Months ago, Beaver was rated as the No. 71 QB in the 2026 cycle, and he jumped up to No. 17 just a day before committing to Oregon.

So, is it a matter of the recruiting websites seeing a prominent team like Oregon show interest in a kid and do Lanning a favor to make his class look better, or rather that the player showed improvement and warranted the bump?
That's a matter of opinion, but the latter seems more likely. Regardless, it all resulted in quite a bit of backlash coming on social media from fans outside of Eugene.
"It's a miracle! He jumped 800 spots in the rankings after switching his commitment from Boise St to Nike," one fan sarcastically commented.
"Ryder Lyons, consensus 5-star QB, picks BYU over Oregon, and gets dropped. Beaver commits to Oregon, and all of a sudden, he’s Top 5. Never beating the allegations," another fan added.
"Look, @On3sports@Rivals I don’t know how much Oregon is paying you… But it’s definitely not enough," BYU football reporter Terrell Williams said. "Dropping Ryder from a 5-star cause he’s going to BYU, and elevating Beaver above him cause he’s headed to Oregon is nasty work."
The complaints continue as fans claim that On3 is openly showing bias towards Oregon, or that the Ducks are in some way paying the recruiting site to make their class look better than it is. Either way, the way that you stand on the situation largely depends on which college team you root for, and how big of a deal you think all of this is in the end.
