As the college football offseason rolls on, the Oregon Ducks continue to make big strides in improving their roster for future years and ensuring their ability to compete for national championships.
Much of that comes in the form of recruiting players out of high school, and one name that head coach Dan Lanning was making a push for was class of 2026 interior offensive lineman Tommy Tofi.
Oregon had already brought him in for two unofficial visits on Oct. 12, 2024, and April 12, while still having an official one scheduled for June 6.
However, if they still want Tofi, they will need to try extra hard, because on Tuesday, On3's Hayes Fawcett reported on X that Tofi committed to the California Golden Bears, who went 6-7 last year and have not had a winning season since 2019.

He now becomes the 10th commitment the Golden Bears have landed in the 2026 recruiting class, with their group now ranking No. 6 in the ACC and No. 29 in the nation.
Losing out on Tofi is certainly a big loss for Oregon, as On3 Industry Rankings placed him as a four-star recruit, the No. 7 interior offensive lineman, the No. 17 player in California and the No. 144 player in the nation.
However, they also weren't the only big program looking to land his commitment, as he also had offers from USC, Tennessee, Miami, Ohio State, Texas A&M and Penn State.
Considering he also already stands at 6-foot-7 and 350 pounds with one more year in high school, Tofi is the kind of player who could come in and compete for a starting position as a freshman with Cal.
What makes not landing him even worse for Oregon as well is that of their seven commitments in the 2026 recruiting class, not a single one is an offensive lineman, and this was a real chance to change that.
