Penn State has been very active on the recruiting trail this offseason, getting the wheels in motion for the program's 2026 and 2027 classes. The results are already turning heads.
Penn State insider Zach Seykor stated that the 2027 is shaping up to be something special.
"I'm not using the word historic lightly here; Penn State is already on track to have not one, not two, but potentially three five-star commitments. They already committed to the class of 2027," Seykor said.
He added, "2027 is off to a fantastic start, fantastic, phenomenal doesn't even begin to describe it for Penn State at this point in time with the class of 2027 … they have a top 10 player committed, a top 20 player committed and a the No. 32 overall player committed based on On3’s ranking scheme."
So far, the program is the only one of nine in the country with multiple five-star recruit commitments, putting the Nittany Lions in elite company.
Pennsylvania native and running back Kemon Spell was ranked the No. 1 running back in the country and the No.14 overall prospect nationally by 247Sports.
Meanwhile, in the same state, five-star wide receiver Khalil Taylor, out of Seton LaSalle, is one of the top receivers in the country. According to 247 Sports, he is the 10th-ranked receiver and 68th nationally. He dominated during his sophomore season, catching 51 passes for 932 yards and 22 touchdowns.
Penn State also received a commitment from Layton Von Brandt, an offensive lineman out of Middletown, Delaware, who is the No. 4 tackle in the 2027 class.
With several already committed and more on the way, it's safe to say coach James Franklin and the Nittany Lions are building something special for the future of Penn State.
