Penn State Nittany Lions head coach James Franklin came into 2025 with a 101-42 overall record with the program.

On Saturday, he added his 102nd win to his total after beating the Nevada Wolf Pack 46-11. Franklin took his team to the Big Ten Championship Game and the semifinal of the College Football Playoff. Penn State ultimately lost to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 27-24, ending its season.

On Tuesday, the program received some more news, as On3's Brett McMurphy reported that Penn State would be changing its apparel provider from Nike to Adidas.

The decision is waiting to be approved by the school's Board of Trustees. Penn State has been with Nike since the 1993 season.

“Penn State will switch from Nike to Adidas, pending approval from the school’s Board of Trustees, sources told On3,” McMurphy said. “Penn State’s been a Nike school since 1993.”

The Tennessee Volunteers also announced in August that they would be making the move to Adidas after a 10-year partnership with Nike.

The Week 1 slate of games was not short on drama, as the premier matchup of the weekend featured the No. 1 Texas Longhorns and No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes.

The long-awaited debut of Arch Manning had some roadblocks, as the quarterback underperformed and finished with 170 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception in a 14-7 loss.

Texas reached an unfortunate milestone in the loss, becoming the first preseason No. 1 team to lose its season opener since the 1990 Miami Hurricanes.

Another one of the top games was the showdown between the No. 8 Alabama Crimson Tide and the Florida State Seminoles. Florida State shocked Alabama and won 31-17 in Tallahassee.

Former Alabama head coach Nick Saban has been retired since 2023, but that won't stop him from speaking his mind. He stated that Ohio State has a psychological disposition with the Michigan Wolverines after losing to them four years in a row.

Penn State takes on the FIU Panthers on Saturday before opening Big Ten play with the Oregon Ducks on September 27. Kickoff for Saturday is at Noon ET on Big Ten Network.
