Potential Future Stars Shine in Florida Spring Game

The Florida Gators have officially concluded their 2025 spring football slate with their annual Orange and Blue game — and this year’s installment did not disappoint.

The game itself came down to the final drive. Despite the Blue team holding a 28-7 lead at halftime, the Orange squad came storming back in the second to make it a one-possession game. In the end, though, Blue still held on to secure a narrow 38-32 win.

Nevertheless, the event serves as more than just another spring scrimmage. Saturday’s contest gave fans and analysts alike a chance to peer into what Florida has been working on this offseason - and what still may need some extra work. Here are three key takeaways from this year’s Orange and Blue game.

DJ Lagway still not throwing

This one was all but a given entering today. Lagway hadn’t gone through throwing motions at any point this spring, and Saturday proved to be no different. He did, however, take a limited number of snaps under center on running plays, and looked to be in good spirits otherwise.

Two-headed monster in the backfield

With Lagway remaining sidelined, Florida’s running backs proved to be the stars of Saturday’s show - at least for the Blue team. Redshirt junior Ja’Kobi Jackson ran for an astonishing 198 yards on just 10 carries, scoring three touchdowns along the way. Sophomore Jadan Baugh also chipped in with 104 yards from scrimmage, including a 48-yard reception on a short pass from quarterback Aidan Warner.

Dallas Wilson ready to make instant impact

While the Blue team pounded away on the ground all afternoon, the Orange squad stayed afloat thanks in part to a phenomenal outing from freshman wideout Dallas Wilson. The former five-star recruit reeled in 10 catches for 195 yards and a pair of touchdowns on Saturday afternoon. With Lagway expected to return this fall, Wilson could pack an immediate punch in a Florida offense full of potential promising weapons.
