Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Four months before the 2024 NFL Draft, Toledo cornerback Quinyon Mitchell caught NFL scouts attention at the annual Senior Reese's Bowl in Mobile, Alabama where he showed off his speed and coverage skills.

It was also there where he told reporters that he modeled his game after Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay and wanted to meet him.

"I watch a lot of football. I like Darius Slay," Mitchell said via AtoZ Sports' Sam Phalen. "He plays a lot of off [man coverage] and then press [man coverage], so I feel like he's real patient at the line. He's big and long and can run like me. ... He's been doing it for a long time ... playing at a high level for a long time.

"... I want to meet him."

Mitchell's pre-NFL draft dream will come true since the are now teammates after the Eagles selected Mitchell at No. 22 overall in the first round of the the draft on Thursday night.

And Slay appears to be just as excited to meet Mitchell.

"Yes sir!!!! We working," Slay wrote on X/Twitter moments after the Eagles selected Mitchell.

A fan then asked Slay if Mitchell was coming for his job

"Hope so.. I’m here to make sure he’s ready to go when my time is up!," Slay replied.

Mitchell could be the X factor that gets the Eagles' struggling pass defense back on track.

He comes to Philly following a 2023 season where he allowed 0 touchdowns in 437 coverage snaps at Toledo.
