For anyone who hasn’t been paying attention, things aren’t trending in a good direction at Florida State. The Seminoles have gone a combined 7-17 the last two seasons and head coach Mike Norvell’s seat is on fire. This combination, along with a supposed lack of NIL money, has made recruiting a challenge.

Unfortunately for Florida State, this reared its ugly head on Sunday when the Seminoles top Class of 2027 commitment, four-star safety Mekhi Williams (Ruskin, FL), announced his decommitment. He had been committed to Florida State for more than a year.

This leaves the Seminoles with only seven commitments, all of whom are three-stars. Florida State is a program that has a history of recruiting success but is currently struggling to recruit at the level of a mid-tier ACC program.

As for Williams, his decommitment occurred at the conclusion of his official visit to Wisconsin. The timing of his announcement immediately made the Badgers the favorite to grab his commitment. But if that doesn’t happen in the coming hours or days, he does have some interesting official visits scheduled.

Up next on the calendar would be Florida State. However, since this is unlikely to happen, there is a possibility that he tries to move up one of his two other scheduled visits to this weekend: Nebraska or LSU. Both programs are surely trying to convince Williams to take his official visit to Lincoln or Baton Rouge before making a decision.

Chances are that this ends with Williams being a Badger, but if that doesn’t happen soon, his process will quickly become very interesting.
