It was no secret that Virginia was going to be in the market for significant reinforcements at the wide receiver position in the transfer portal this offseason as the Cavaliers looked to replace the record-breaking production of the NFL Draft-bound Malik Washington. UVA took a big step towards doing just that by securing a commitment from Notre Dame wide receiver transfer Chris Tyree on Tuesday.

But UVA head coach Tony Elliott and wide receivers coach Adam Mims aren't done yet. The Cavaliers have their sights set on another Power Five receiver and Virginia native in the transfer portal, as North Carolina wide receiver Andre Greene Jr. has reportedly set an official visit to UVA for next weekend, December 15th. Reports from 247Sports and Rivals have indicated that Greene is planning to take official visits to Penn State this weekend and Virginia next weekend and he is also in contact with Wisconsin, Florida, and Tennessee.

Greene was a heralded four-star prospect coming out of high school. Playing for St. Christopher's School in Richmond, Virginia, Greene registered 85 catches for 1,456 yards and 17 touchdowns in his high school career. 247Sports rated Greene as the No. 16 wide receiver in the class of 2022, the No. 102 overall recruit in the country, and the No. 2 player in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Greene had a top three of Penn State, Clemson, and North Carolina and ultimately committed to the Tar Heels.

Greene hasn't played much since arriving at Chapel Hill, appearing in 11 total games in his first two seasons. His snaps were limited and he tallied just five receptions for 43 yards and a touchdown. That touchdown was an impressive one, though, as he elevated and hauled in a jump ball from Drake Maye in the corner of the end zone against Oregon in the Holiday Bowl in 2022.

Greene, a 6'2", 200-pound redshirt freshman, entered the transfer portal on December 2nd with three years of eligibility remaining. It seems Virginia's top competition for Greene will be Penn State, which means the Cavaliers will have to fend off current Penn State wide receivers coach Marques Hagans, who spent a combined 15 years at UVA as a quarterback and wide receiver, graduate assistant, wide receivers coach, and then associate head coach before leaving for Happy Valley at the end of the 2022 season.
