Head coach Shane Beamer and the South Carolina Gamecocks are down to five recruits in the 2026 class after a four-star announced his decommitment on Tuesday.
The time is now for Beamer and Co. on the recruiting trail after reviving the program last season. South Carolina is coming off its first nine-win season since 2017 and the best season under Beamer, who is entering his fifth season at the helm.
Recruiting against the perennial powers is no easy task, though, and the Gamecocks have some ground to make up following the abrupt decision by blue-chip cornerback Peyton Dyer.
Dyer (6-foot, 190 pounds) plays for Duluth (Georgia) High School and is ranked as the No. 27 corner in the class and the No. 39 player in the state, per 247Sports composite.
He had been committed to South Carolina since November before backing off his pledge on Tuesday (On3).
Dyer is coming off an unofficial visit to the USC Trojans over the weekend.

Dyer has official visits scheduled this summer to USC (June 6) and Georgia (June 13). He also previously scheduled a trip to South Carolina on June 20, a potential opportunity for the Gamecocks to make another push.
For now, South Carolina has five pledges in the class of 2026. The group is headlined by one of the top safeties in the country in four-star J'Zavien Currence out of South Pointe High School. The in-state product is rated as the No. 5 player at his position.
The Gamecocks will host their annual spring game on April 18, an event that usually serves as a major recruiting opportunity. It wouldn't be a surprise for Beamer and staff to receive some good news there after wrapping up the spring period.
