In the 2025 NFL Draft, Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders had one of the most unpredictable plummets in the history of professional sports.
Entering as a projected top-five pick, Sanders fell all the way to the 144th pick, with the Cleveland Browns selecting him in the fifth round.
Sanders’ draft stock was the biggest story of the entire draft, with many in the sports, political, and media worlds theorizing his fall. The situation was so notable that even United States President Donald Trump chimed in on social media, calling NFL owners “stupid” for leaving Sanders on the board.
Cleveland took that message to heart on Day Three, snagging Sanders later than expected, and ending his fall from grace with a trip to the Dawg Pound. He was the second rookie quarterback selected by the Browns in the 2025 Draft, as the group ended up snagging Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel in the third round as well.
Sanders completed 74% of his attempts in 2024, racking up 4,134 yards and 37 passing touchdowns (4 rushing) on his way to Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and AP Second-Team All-American honors.
After setting single-season school records for passing yards, completions, attempts, touchdowns, completion percentage, and quarterback rating, it’s safe to say he’s the best quarterback that Colorado football has ever had.
While his stats are more than deserving of a Day Three flier, at the very least, Sanders brings some off-the-field antics with him that spooked several NFL executives and coaches out of submitting the pick.
Regardless, his time has come, and he will head to Cleveland to join the Browns in the near future.
