Sherrone Moore reveals all the little things making Bryce Underwood break out as the special QB Michigan Wolverines need

The Michigan Wolverines are hitting their stride at just the right time. Yes, they lost the one game to Oklahoma in Norman, but that's looking better by the day considering the Sooners have the number one defense in the country.

Now Bryce Underwood is breaking out. Justice Haynes is on record-setting pace at running back. Both Donaven McCulley and true freshman star Andrew Marsh are putting it together at wide receiver. The Wolverines have won three in a row–two in Big Ten play already. If Underwood continues developing at the rapid rate he's shown over the last few games, Michigan is going to make a real push for the postseason.

Bryce Underwood developing into the five star QB Michigan needs

When asked about Bryce Underwood following his impressive 270-yard passing day, looking calm, poised, and consistent, Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore had this to say:

"Bryce Underwood just continues to get better, and better, and better, and better. We continue to. put more on his plate, and give him more to do. He just continues to learn. He's never satisfied with himself and his progression, so he did a really nice job and still has things to work on. It's not perfect. He knows that. We know that. But he's peaking at the right time for us. What I'm really proud of is how he's taking care of the football overall. We had the loose ball there, but he's not throwing it into traffic a lot. He's putting it on the money where he needs to in those contested catches situations. He continues to play at a good level and we'll continue to help him do that."

It's obvious that the Michigan staff keeps adding new layers to Underwood's game and understanding of the scheme every week. First it was adding some play action and complex deeper reads in the early weeks. Then it was unlocking his run game. Now it's become about finding chemistry with his wide receivers and trusting his ball placement outside the numbers.

According to coach Moore, it's much more than the on-field results that are setting Underwood apart too:

"First, it starts with the stuff off the field. Not just the studying, but the leadership qualities, being able to tell guys, 'Hey, this route needs to be here.' Or, 'Make sure we have this split here.' Whatever it is to the offensive line, but not in a demeaning way, but in a positive attitude, because he's going to be effective as a leader. [Bryce Underwood] has that power because he is the quarterback. He continues to do that. And just the little things, different plays, being able to execute, and things he maybe was not able to do week one, right? He continues to have a lot of growth–he threw for what, 270 yards this game? He's playing really well for us."

Underwood is clearly the leader that Michigan needs on offense. The team started a bit slow against Wisconsin this past weekend, but once his wide receivers got going, especially Donaven McCulley and Andrew Marsh (as you can see in the post below), the Wolverines went off late in the game.

If Underwood keeps developing as a leader, a passer, decisive runner, and sound game manager for Michigan this team could put together a special season. Andrew Marsh looks like he's on the precipice of a true freshman breakout season. McCulley is looking more and more like the perfect transfer wide receiver Michigan needs him to be. Justice Haynes cannot be stopped on the ground. The offense line is gelling.

All of that begins and ends with Bryce Underwood. If he ends up being the guy he was billed to be–or anywhere near it–like he's beginning to show, the Wolverines could push to make the Big Ten Championship and the College Football Playoff.
